Entertainment giant Disney has an ambitious target for 2019 which is earning $9 billion at the box office across the world. The firm has been a box office biggie for several now after it resurrected itself with some box office smashing movies and in last five years alone. It has broken its own records. In 2016 it made $7.6 billion on a global level and last year it almost broke that record by making $7.3 million on global level and earning $3.09 billion during 2018 in domestic markets. It is likely to break both these records this year and may reach eight to nine billion in a single year. This could be possible because throughout May Disney has earned around $1.6 billion in US alone and in excess of $4 billion worldwide from all its business ventures.
Its closest competitor is Warner Bros which since January has managed to make only $702 million within United States from December 2018 release Aquaman. Disney had wide repertoire of films scheduled for release this year like Captain Marvel and Avengers – Endgame along with action remakes Aladdin and Dumbo that have a wide audience along with Penguins. Besides it there are several films like Toy Story, Lion King, Maleficent – Mistress of Evil and Frozen 2 along with final film from Skywalkers’ saga – Star Wars – Rise of Skywalker. Till now only 13 films in the box office have earned around half a billion and nine of them are movies of Disney. Experts believe that from the other films Disney could rake in more than $500 million in North America itself as Avengers – Endgame has already brought in more than $825 million for its coffers. They predict that Lion King alone would be grossing over $2 billion on a global scale. With acquisition of Fox this year it has nine more movies in its lineup this year.
