A recent research regarding the impact of alcohol consumption on human health was conducted on 500,000 residents from China. The span of this research was 10 years. According to the researchers, the result of the study is relevant to people from all sections of the society. They also claim to have the best of evidence to show that alcohol drinking has direct impact on the body.
Experts have already stated that alcohol consumption should be minimized. Excess drinking is considered harmful for cardiac health. It is also known to increase the rate of strokes. A section of medics on the other hand think that limited amount of alcohol consumption can be good for health. Some studies again suggest that even limited amount of drinking can do bad.
This recent study has been conducted by the researchers from Oxford University, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking University. The key observations from this study reveal that consuming 1-2 pegs of alcohol each day increases the rate of stroke by 10% to 15%.4 pegs of drink everyday increases the rate of strokes by 35%.
The researchers have defined 1 drink as1 bottle of beer or a single measure of spirits or 1 small glass filled with wine. The study states that 16 men out of 100 and 20 women in 100 will suffer from stroke in their lifetime. This is in reference to the residents of United Kingdom. So this means, if 100 additional people start drinking (who were previously non- drinkers) then there will be an increase in the number of strokes by 2.
Professor David Spiegelhalter from Cambridge University informed this means an increase of 38% in the stroke rate when half bottle wine is drunk each day. He also commented that this is almost the opposite impact of statin.
